"The efforts of the winners to develop and implement more climate-friendly solutions in Ukraine during the war is truly impressive. Supporting innovation will accelerate the development of high-performance clean technologies, and we are pleased to support new successful businesses through our Climate Innovation Vouchers program. The EBRD is a loyal and steadfast partner of Ukraine. Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Bank has directed €4 billion to support the private sector, energy security, critical infrastructure, food security and trade. We will make every effort to help Ukraine restore the "green" economy and make a low-carbon transition," says Konstantin Kintsurashvili, EBRD regional manager for climate strategy and project implementation.

"In the context of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, further steps to strengthen the country's energy security are extremely important. New energy-saving and generation technologies and "green" solutions emerging through Climate Innovation Vouchers thanks to EU support will contribute to strengthening the endurance and sustainability of the Ukrainian economy. They will also ensure the transition to resource efficiency, sustainable and low-carbon development, as envisaged by the European Green Deal," comments Henrik Whitfelt, acting head of the operational department — Economic cooperation, energy, infrastructure, environment, Representation of the European Union in Ukraine.

About the CIV grant scheme:

Grant competition "Climate Innovation Vouchers" is a component of the program EBRD Climate Change Finance and Technology Transfer Center (FINTECC), which is supported by the EU within the initiative EU4CLIMATE. It has been implemented in Ukraine since 2017 NGO "Greencubator".

"Climate Innovation Vouchers" is one of the largest grant competitions in Ukraine for innovators in the field of green and climate-friendly technologies. Ukraine became the first country in the EBRD region where the Bank launched the Innovation Vouchers program.

The contest supports Ukrainian small and medium-sized businesses that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, and prevent climate change. Grants of up to 50,000 euros cover 75% of costs for the declared services.

Companies can use the voucher to develop and implement "green" innovations at various stages of their activities - from intellectual property protection and industrial design of prototypes to product certification and design of their production facilities.
