Project Description

The Institute for Environment and Energy Conservation (IEEC) developed designs for 1 MW and 3 MW straw pellet-fired boilers that are currently not produced in Ukraine. There are other producers of boilers with a heat output of up to 300 kW, which are configured to burn straw pellets. The market for biofuel boilers in Ukraine is saturated with boilers burning wood in the form of chips, granules or firewood, but they are not, for technical reasons, able to burn straw and granules from it. There are few pilot examples of the introduction of biofuel boilers in straw that are of foreign origin (Czech Republic, Belarus) and are restrictively priced for the Ukrainian consumer due to their foreign production that limits the rollout this type of boilers.

The Institute would like to develop software for an automated control system for a 1 MW biofuel boiler that burns straw pellets. The software will allow to efficiently and reliably control the operation of the boiler using microprocessors and proven technological algorithms, expanding the boiler’s existing capabilities and boosting efficiency. Also, the Institute would like to do testing to obtain appropriate certificates for its boiler.
